Winemaking process

Varieties:
This very old variety has been successfully grown in South Tyrol since the end of the 19th century, especially in the Unterland region.

Terroir:
The grapes for our “Urgestein” come from two vineyards located at 300 metres and 1,050 metres above sea level: they grow on primary rock soils deposited at the end of the last Ice Age.

Toldo de Kasnan is the old name for the village of Gschnon/ Casignano, located at 1,050 metres above sea level in the midst of the Trudner Horn Nature Park.

Vinification:
After whole-cluster pressing, the wine is aged in large wooden casks and in steel tanks on the coarse lees; it is bottled in April and can, because of its fresh character, either be drunk young or aged for as much as ten years.

Opinion

Anton Felix Longo

"Our Sauvignon Blanc offers a vibrant burst of citrus and a crisp, aromatic profile. It delivers a refreshing taste with a notably long-lasting finish on the palate. Although it’s still youthful, it’s perfect for immediate enjoyment or for aging to reveal even more depth. Drink or Hold."

A.P.

The 20 hectares of the biodynamically cultivated vineyards of Baron Longo are located in South Tyrol’s south, around the picturesque Castelletto in Egna. The vineyards range from 240 metres a.s.l. up to Montagna, in the Trudner Horn Nature Park, where Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes thrive. The main varieties produced by the family winery are Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Cabernet. As a winemaker, Anton Baron Longo concentrates on wines that are distinguished by their elegance.
